:

“Glory be to Him who took His servant by night from the Sacred Mosque” [Al-Isrā’: 1], up to His words: “the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.” [Al-Isrā’: 1]

And He said in Surah Hā Mīm al-Mu’min:

“So seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.” [Ghāfir: 56]

An exhaustive listing of His words “the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing” and “All-Hearing, All-Seeing” would greatly lengthen this book.

And He, Mighty and Majestic, said to Moses, to whom He spoke, and his brother Aaron, may Allah’s blessings be upon them both:

“No! Go, both of you, with Our signs. Indeed, We are with you, listening.” [Al-Shu‘arā’: 15]

Thus He, Majestic and Exalted, informed His believing servants that He heard what was being said to Moses, to whom He spoke, and his brother. This illustrates the distinction I make: the Creator’s listening is not like the listening of a created being. Allah also commanded Moses, peace be upon him, to listen to what was revealed, saying:

“So listen to what is revealed.” [Tā Hā: 13]

The word used for both instances of listening is the same, but their meanings differ, because the Creator’s listening is unlike that of created beings. Our Lord is far too mighty and exalted for anything in His creation to resemble Him, and far too exalted for the action of any of His creatures to resemble His action, Mighty and Majestic is He.

And Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said:

“And say, ‘Act, for Allah will see your deeds, as will His Messenger
