Muhammad narrated to us: ‘Abd Allāh ibn Yazīd al-Muqri’ narrated to us: My father narrated to us: Harmalah narrated to us, from ‘Imrān, who said: Abū Yūnus narrated to me: I heard Abū Hurayrah recite this verse:
“Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due.” [Al-Nisā’: 58]
He continued reciting as far as “Hearing and Seeing” [Al-Nisā’: 58], placing his thumb on his ear and the finger next to it on his eye, and saying: “This is how I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, recite it, placing his two fingers in this way.”
Abū Bakr said: Ishāq ibn Mūsā ibn ‘Abd Allāh ibn Yazīd ibn Hisn al-Khatmī al-Ansārī dictated it to a group of our companions while I was present at the gathering, and I wrote it down in my own hand. However, I fear that I may have taken some of the wording from the person relaying the dictation
