as mentioned in the report of Abū al-Zinād, from al-A‘raj, from Abū Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, concerning the names of the Lord, Mighty and Majestic, which includes “and the Equitable.”

He said concerning discord ⦗68⦘ between spouses:

“And if you fear discord between them, appoint an arbitrator from his family and an arbitrator from her family.” [al-Nisā’: 35]

He thus applied the designation “judge” to the two arbitrators in marital discord. Allah is the Just, and He commanded His servants to act with justice and kindness. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, also stated:

“Those who act equitably in this world will be on pulpits of light—or of pearls—on the Day of Resurrection.”

Thus, the designation ⦗69⦘ “equitable” was applied by the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to some of His allies who act justly in their judgements, towards their families, and in whatever is entrusted to their care.

فِي خَبَرِ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي أَسَامِي الرَّبِّ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فِيهِ «وَالْمُقْسِطُ» وَقَالَ فِي ذِكْرِ الشِّقَاقِ ⦗٦٨⦘ بَيْنَ الزَّوْجَيْنِ: {وَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ شِقَاقَ بَيْنَهُمَا فَابْعَثُوا حَكَمًا مِنْ أَهْلِهِ وَحَكَمًا مِنْ أَهْلِهَا} [النساء: ٣٥] , فَأَوْقَعَ اسْمَ الْحَكَمِ عَلَى حَكَمَيِ الشِّقَاقِ وَاللَّهُ الْعَدْلُ، وَأَمَرَ عِبَادَهُ بِالْعَدْلِ وَالْإِحْسَانِ، وَالنَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ خَبَّرَ «أَنَّ الْمُقْسِطِينَ فِي الدُّنْيَا عَلَى مَنَابِرَ مِنْ نُورٍ، أَوْ مِنْ لُؤْلُؤٍ، يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ» ، فَاسْمُ ⦗٦٩⦘ الْمُقْسِطِ قَدْ أَوْقَعَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى بَعْضِ أَوْلِيَائِهِ الَّذِينَ يَعْدِلُونَ فِي حُكْمِهِمْ وَأَهْلِيهِمْ , وَمَا وُلُّوا
