Yūsuf ibn Mūsā narrated to us: Jarīr narrated to us, from al-ʿAlāʾ—that is, Ibn al-Musayyab—from ʿAmr ibn Murrah, from Abū ʿUbaydah ibn ʿAbd Allāh, from Abū Mūsā, who said: The Messenger (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:
“Indeed, Allah does not sleep, nor is it befitting for Him to sleep. He lowers the balance and raises it ⦗46⦘. The deeds of the day are raised to Him before the night, and the deeds of the night before the day. His veil is fire. Were He to uncover its layers, the splendor of His Face would burn everything encompassed by His sight. He lays out His hand for the one who sins by night to repent by day, and for the one who sins by day to repent by night, until the sun rises from the west.”
