ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muhammad al-Zuhrī narrated to us. He said: Sufyān narrated to us, from al-Aʿmash, who said: I heard Abū Wā’il say: I heard Khabbāb say:
“We emigrated with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, ⦗40⦘ seeking the Face of Allah, and our reward rested with Allah. Some of us passed away without enjoying any reward for their good deeds in this world. Among them was Musʿab ibn ʿUmayr, who was killed on the day of Uhud and left behind a cloak. When we placed it over his head, his feet were exposed, and when we placed it over his feet, his head was exposed. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, instructed us to place some idhkhir grass over his feet. Others among us have seen their fruit ripen and are now harvesting it.”
Abū Bakr said: I have presented the various chains of transmission of this report in the Book of Funerals, in the chapter on the evidence that the shroud is paid for out of the estate as a whole.
