Muhammad ibn Yahyā narrated to us: Abū Sālih narrated to us: Al-Layth narrated to me: Khālid ibn Yazīd narrated to me, from Saʿīd ibn Abī Hilāl, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from ʿAtāʾ ibn Yasār, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said ⦗175⦘:
“On the Day of Resurrection, the earth will become a single loaf of bread. The Compeller will turn it over with His hand, just as one of you turns over his loaf with his hand while travelling, as a welcoming meal for the people of Paradise.”
Then a Jewish man came and said, “May the Most Merciful bless you, Abū al-Qāsim! Shall I tell you about the welcoming meal for the people of Paradise on the Day of Resurrection?”
He replied, “Yes.”
The man said, “The earth will become a single loaf of bread,” just as the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, had said.
He related: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, looked at us, then laughed until his molar teeth became visible.
Then he said, “Shall I tell you what will accompany their bread?”
He replied, “Yes.”
He said, “Lām and nūn.”
“And what are these?”
He said, “A bull and a fish. Seventy thousand will eat from the extra lobes of their livers.”
