Al-Awliya'Ibn Abi al-Dunya

64 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; al-Husayn ibn ʿAli reported; ʿIsa ibn Salamah narrated to us; Ayyub ibn Suwayd narrated to us; al-Sari ibn Yahya mentioned; Abu ʿAwanah related from Muʿawiyah ibn Qurrah, who said:

“Muslim ibn Yasar used to perform Hajj every year, accompanied by several of his brothers who had made that their custom. One year he delayed until the season had already passed. He then said to his companions, ‘Set out!’ They replied, ‘Glorify Allah! Abū ʿAbd Allah is telling us to depart even though the time for Hajj is over!’ Yet he would accept nothing from them but that they go, so—out of deference to him—they complied.

When night fell, a violent whirlwind struck them, making it impossible for any of them to see the others except when they called out. At daybreak they found themselves facing the mountains of Tihamah. They praised Allah, and he said, ‘What is there about this that amazes you, given Allah’s power?’”
