22 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; ʿAli ibn Abi Maryam reported; from al-Muqaddamī; Jaʿfar ibn Sulaymān narrated, saying:
“I heard Mālik ibn Dīnār—he was in tears—asking ʿAli ibn Zayd, ‘Abu al-Hasan, according to what has reached you, how long will a friend of Allah be held up on the Sirāt?’
He replied, ‘Only for the span it takes a man performing an obligatory prayer to complete its bowing and prostration.’
Mālik then asked, ‘And has it also reached you that the Sirāt widens for the friends of Allah?’
He answered, ‘Yes.’
