- ʿAbd Allah narrated to us—ʿAli ibn Abi Maryam related—from Ahmad ibn Janab, from ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman, who said: Armiya asked, “My Lord, which of Your servants is dearest to You?” He answered, “Those who remember Me the most—who are so absorbed in My remembrance that they forget created things; those whom the promptings of wealth never visit, who never imagine that this life will last; those who, when some share of worldly ease comes their way, feel aversion to it, and when it is withheld from them, rejoice. Upon such people I bestow My love, and I grant them beyond their utmost aspirations.”
