96 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; ʿAwn ibn Ibrahim reported it; Ahmad ibn Abi al-Hawari transmitted it; ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Sari said: “There was a young man in Basra dedicated to worship, and an aunt of his used to send him his food. When she failed to send anything for three days, he said, ‘My Lord, have You withdrawn my provision?’ A satchel filled with sawiq (roasted barley meal) was then thrown to him from a corner of the mosque, and a voice said, ‘Here you are, O you of little patience!’ He replied, ‘By Your might, since You have rebuked me I shall not taste it.’”
