- ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; Abū Ḥātim al-Rāzī reported; Aḥmad ibn Abī al-Ḥawārī transmitted; Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Azdī said:
“I was walking along a rampart in Beirut when I passed a man who was suspended above the sea, repeatedly proclaiming the takbīr, ‘Allāhu akbar.’ I leaned on the parapet beside him and asked, ‘Young man, why are you sitting here all alone?’
He answered, ‘Young fellow, speak only the truth. I have never been alone since the day my mother gave birth to me. My Lord is with me wherever I am; two angels accompany me, guarding over me, and a devil who never parts from me. Whenever I need something from my Lord, I ask Him for it with my heart, without moving my tongue, and He brings it to me.’
