78 – ʿAbdullāh narrated to us; Hārūn ibn Ibrāhīm al-Imām narrated to us; Zayd ibn al-Ḥubbāb reported, mentioning Mūsā ibn ʿUbayda, who cited my brother ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUbayda, from ʿUrwa ibn al-Zubayr:
“Muṣʿab ibn ʿUmayr came forward wearing a namira (a thin, striped cloak) that scarcely covered him, while the Prophet ﷺ was sitting with a number of his Companions. When they saw him, they looked down, for they had nothing to offer him so that he might better clothe himself. The Prophet ﷺ praised him with kind words. Muṣʿab then greeted them with salām, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘I have seen him with his parents, and there was no youth of Quraysh whose parents treated him as they treated him—honoring him and surrounding him with comfort. Yet he abandoned all of that, seeking the pleasure of Allah and the support of His Messenger.’”
