Al-IkhwanIbn Abi al-Dunya

77 — Muhammad ibn Qudāma narrated to us: Sufyān narrated to us, from Ibrāhīm ibn Maysara, from Tāwūs, from Ibn Abbās, who said, “Ties of kinship are severed, blessings are met with ingratitude, and nothing like the drawing together of hearts has ever been seen.”

Abū Jaʿfar said, “Muhammad was quick to express this in verse:

[al-Kāmil meter]

A close tie of kinship may be severed, and favor be denied;
But nothing compares to the drawing close of two hearts.

This one reveals love and that one guidance—
Then, behold, they are one soul, though seen as two.”
