6 — Alī ibn al-Jad narrated to us. He said: Abd al-Hamīd ibn Bahrām narrated to us, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, who said: Abd al-Rahmān ibn Ghanm narrated to me, from Abū Mālik al-Asharī, that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) turned to face the people and said:
“O people, listen and understand. Know that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has servants who are neither prophets nor martyrs, yet the prophets and martyrs will look upon them with admiration because of their stations and their nearness to Allah.”
A Bedouin said, “O Messenger of Allah, describe them to us; make them clear to us.” The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) smiled at the Bedouin’s words and said:
“They are people of varied, obscure origins and strangers from among the tribes. They are not bound together by close ties of kinship, but they love one another for the sake of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and are wholly sincere toward one another. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will set up pulpits of light for them and seat them upon them. He will make their faces light and their garments light. People will be terrified on the Day of Resurrection, but they will not be terrified. They are the allies of Allah: they will have no fear, nor will they grieve.”
