62 — Abd al-Rahmān ibn Sālih related to me: al-Fadl, one of our shaykhs, related to me and said: “When al-Numān ibn al-Mundhir intended to depart for Syria, his father advised him, saying: ‘My son, I forbid you two things. The first is this: I forbid you to let friendships wear thin and to chase after new acquaintances. I command you to spend freely to safeguard your honor and to be willing to be deceived where your wealth is concerned. I also recommend solitude at night.’”
