221 — Ali ibn al-Ja‘d narrated to us, saying: Abū Mu‘āwiya informed us, from Abū Hayyān al-Taymī, who said: Ali ibn Abī Tālib was seen wearing a garment that he appeared to wear frequently. When he was asked about it, he replied: “This garment was given to me by my dear friend and chosen companion, Umar ibn al-Khattāb—may Allah be pleased with him. Umar was faithful to Allah, and Allah was faithful to him.”
