173 — Abū Hafs al-Sayrafī narrated to us, saying: Abū Āsim narrated to us, saying: Abū Khalda informed us, from Abū al-Āliya, who said:
“I was with Uthmān ibn Abī al-Ās. He had a room in which he remembered Allah, Glorious and Exalted, and where his companions would visit him. I came to him during the first ten days of Dhū al-Hijja. A man passed by with a ram, so he asked, ‘How much is the ram?’ The man replied, ‘Twelve dirhams.’ I said, ‘If I had twelve dirhams, I would use them to buy him a ram, slaughter it, and eat from it with my family.’ He then gave me a purse containing fifty dirhams. By Allah, I have never seen fifty dirhams that brought greater blessing than those. He gave them to me when I needed them, and he did so wholeheartedly.”
