168 — Muhammad narrated to us, saying: Qudāmah ibn Muhammad narrated to us, saying: I heard Abū Mawdūd say:
“Āmir ibn Abd Allāh ibn al-Zubayr would wait until devout worshippers such as Abū Hāzim, Safwān ibn Sulaym, Sulaymān ibn Suhaym, and others like them were prostrating. He would then bring them purses containing dinars and dirhams and place them beside their sandals, where they would notice them without knowing where he was. He was asked, ‘What prevents you from sending the money to them?’ He replied, ‘I would hate for the expression on any one of their faces to change upon seeing my messenger or meeting me.’”
