14 — Abū Kurayb Muhammad ibn al-ʿAlāʾ al-Hamadhānī and ʿAbd al-Rahmān ibn Sālih narrated to us—the wording is that of ʿAbd al-Rahmān—who said: Ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from his father, who said:

I met Abū Ishāq after he had lost his sight, and he embraced me. I asked, “Do you recognize me?” He replied, “Yes, by Allah! I certainly recognize you, and I truly love you. Were it not for modesty, I would kiss you. Do you know concerning whom this verse was revealed? Abū al-Ahwas narrated to me, from ʿAbd Allah, who said: ‘It was concerning those who love one another for the sake of Allah, Glorious and Exalted: “Had you spent all that is on the earth, you could not have united their hearts” [al-Anfāl 8:63].’”
