Al-IkhwanIbn Abi al-Dunya

136 — Ibn al-Aʿrābī, the grammarian, narrated to me, saying: “John son of Zechariah met Jesus son of Mary, peace be upon them both. John was smiling, his face beaming, while Jesus looked stern and was frowning. Jesus said to John, ‘Do you laugh as though you were secure?’ John replied to Jesus, ‘It is as though you despair.’ Allah, Mighty and Majestic, then revealed: ‘What John did is more beloved to Us.’” This is an Israelite report with a good chain of transmission.
