Al-IkhwanIbn Abi al-Dunya

106 — Muhammad ibn Sālih narrated to me, saying: Abū Ubayda al-Haddād narrated to me, from Abū Awāna, who said: I heard Abd al-Malik ibn Umayr reciting by way of illustration:

[The Kāmil meter]

Keep some affection in reserve for your friend; do not become
A saddle that relentlessly chafes the camel’s withers.

Keep your distance from them as one friend does from another;
Whenever you meet again, you will find them eager to keep you near.”
