98 – Al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Saʿid narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn Saʿid transmitted from Ziyad ibn ʿAbd Allah; Ismaʿil ibn Abi Khalid narrated from Abu Ishaq, from Hubayrah ibn Yarim, who said:
After his father had been killed, al-Hasan ibn ʿAli rose, praised Allah and extolled Him, then said:
“O people, yesterday there left you a man who surpassed the earliest generations and whom the later generations can never overtake. Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ dispatched him on a campaign and handed him the banner, he would not return until Allah had granted him victory, with Gabriel on his right and Michael on his left. He left behind neither gold nor silver, save seven hundred dirhams that remained from his stipend, with which he had intended to buy a servant for his family.”
