Description of ʿAli—may Allah have mercy on him
67 – Al-Husayn narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Ibrahim ibn Saʿid al-Jawhari told me: Husayn ibn Muhammad narrated to us; Jarir ibn Hazim related from Abu Rajaʾ al-ʿAtardi, who said:

“I saw ʿAli ibn Abi Talib: a man of medium stature, broad-bellied, with a great beard that filled his chest. His eyesight was somewhat weak. He was bald—conspicuously so—and had thick hair on his chest and shoulders, so much so that it was as though he were clad in a sheep’s hide.”
