48 – Al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Isḥāq narrated to us; Sufyān narrated to us, from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār, who said—concerning ʿAlī’s bequest:
“Now then: the slave women with whom I circulate number nineteen. Among them are ‘mothers of children,’ whose offspring are alive and with them; some are pregnant; and some have never borne a child. I have decreed that, should something befall me in these military campaigns, any one of them who is neither pregnant nor has a child is manumitted for the sake of Allah—no one may lay a claim upon her. As for any who is pregnant or has a child, she shall remain with her child and is to be counted as part of his share. If her child dies while she is still alive, she is thereby set free for the sake of Allah. Such is my ruling regarding my nineteen slave women, and Allah’s help is sought in every circumstance.
Witnessed by Abū Hayyāj and ʿUbayd Allah ibn Abī Rāfiʿ, and it was duly recorded.”
