38 – Al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father—may Allah have mercy on him—told me, from Hishām ibn Muḥammad, from his father, who said: When Ibn Muljam struck ʿAlī, Ibn Athīr al-Kindī, a physician, was summoned. He took a cloth, inserted it into ʿAlī’s head, and when he withdrew it, part of the brain had come out with it. He then said, “O Commander of the Believers, settle your affairs and give your final instructions, for you are going to die.”
