27 – Al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah narrated; Saʿīd ibn Yaḥyā narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn Saʿīd, from Ziyād ibn ʿAbd Allah, who said: Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq said: “Ibn Muljam al-Murādī travelled from Syria until he struck ʿAlī. Umm Kulthūm, the daughter of ʿAlī, cried out to Ibn Muljam, ‘Enemy of Allah, you have killed the Commander of the Faithful!’ He replied, ‘I have killed no one but your father.’ She said, ‘By Allah, I still hope that no serious harm will befall him.’ He retorted, ‘So it is for him that you are weeping, then?’ Then he added, ‘By Allah, I have been dosing him with poison for a whole month; if it fails me, may Allah cast him far away and crush him.’”
