25 – Al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah narrated; ʿAbd Allah ibn Yūnus ibn Bukayr narrated to me; my father narrated, from Muḥammad ibn Rabīʿah; Nāfiʿ ibn ʿUqbah al-Munbihī narrated:
He said: I left my house in the pre-dawn hour and reached the Kindah Gate of the mosque. There I saw a man coming out of the mosque with his sword unsheathed. I threw my cloak over his face, seized him, wrested the sword from his hand, and led him like a camel until I brought him into the mosque. Then I heard an uproar, the people crying, “The Commander of the Believers has been killed!” I presented the man, saying, “Here he is—I caught him outside the mosque with his sword in hand.” He was taken in to ʿAlī, who said, “Detain him. If I die from this wound of mine, he is in your charge—life for life, so kill him. But if I live and recover, I shall give my ruling concerning him.”
