23 – Al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn ⦗37⦘ Yūnus ibn Bukayr narrated to me. He said: My father narrated to me, from ʿAbd al-Ghaffār ibn al-Qāsim al-Anṣārī, who said:
I heard more than one person relate that Ibn Muljam spent the night at the home of al-Ashʿath ibn Qays. When the last part of the night drew on, he kept urging him, “Daybreak has come.” Hujr, who was their mu’adhdhin (caller to prayer), then stepped out and gave the adhan. He had scarcely finished when a cry of lamentation was heard. From the top of the minaret Hujr called out, “The one-eyed man has killed him!”—for the assassin was blind in one eye—and ʿAlī used to nickname him “the crest of the Fire.”
