17 – Al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Saʿid ibn Yahya al-Umawi narrated to us ⦗32⦘; he said: ʿAbd Allah ibn Saʿid narrated to us, from Ziyad ibn ʿAbd Allah, from al-Mujalid ibn Saʿid, who said:

“Ibn Bujrah al-Ashjaʿi and Ibn Muljam came with two swords and sat by the entrance. When ʿAli—may Allah be pleased with him—emerged and called for the prayer, the two men rushed at him and struck. One missed and hit the wall, while the other struck true. They both fled: Ibn Bujrah took the route toward Kindah, and Ibn Muljam headed toward the market. Ibn Muljam was overtaken, seized, and brought to ʿAli—may Allah be pleased with him—who said, ‘Hold him under guard.’”
