The Children of ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib—upon him and upon them be peace
121 – al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; al-Zubayr ibn Abī Bakr, in what he permitted me to transmit, said, “Report this from me.” He related: The children born to ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib—may Allah honor his face—were:
• al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī, born on the night of the fifteenth of Ramadan in the third year after the Hijrah. The Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and grant him peace, named him al-Ḥasan. He died on the third of Rabiʿ al-Awwal in the year 50 AH.
• al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī—may Allah honor his face—was born five nights into Shaʿbān in the fourth year after the Hijrah. He was killed on Friday, the Day of ʿĀshūrāʾ, in Muḥarram of the year 61 AH. Sinān ibn Anas al-Nakhaʿī—may Allah curse him—struck the fatal blow, and Khawli ibn Yazīd al-Aṣbaḥī al-Himyari—may Allah curse him—finished him off and severed his head.
• Zaynab, the elder daughter of ʿAlī, who bore children to ʿAbd Allah ibn Jaʿfar ibn Abī Ṭālib.
• Umm Kulthūm the Elder, who bore children to ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb; none of those children survived. Their mother was Fāṭimah, daughter of the Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and grant him peace. ⦗100⦘
