Lamentations and elegies for ʿAli—may Allah be pleased with him
104 – Al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to me, from Muḥammad ibn Ayyūb al-Tamīmī, from Mūsā ibn al-Mughīra, from al-Ḍaḥḥāk ibn Muzāḥim, who said:
ʿAli ibn Abī Ṭālib, may Allah be pleased with him, was mentioned before Ibn ʿAbbās, may Allah be pleased with him, after ʿAli’s death. Ibn ʿAbbās exclaimed, “Oh, the sorrow for Abū al-Ḥasan! By Allah, he held authority yet never altered, never changed, never fell short, never amassed, never withheld, and never showed favoritism. This world was lighter in his eyes than the strap of his sandal. A lion in the heat of battle, an ocean in gatherings, the wisest of the wise—alas, he has gone on to the highest ranks.”
