102 – Al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Abū Muslim ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yūnus narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn Idrīs narrated. He said, “I heard Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid mention that from Abū Isḥāq.” Ibn Idrīs added, “I know it only from Hubayrah ibn Yarīm:
When ʿAlī was struck down, al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī delivered a sermon. He praised Allah and extolled Him, then said:
‘Yesterday there departed from you a man whom the earliest could not surpass ⦗87⦘ and whom the latest will never equal. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would hand the banner to him; he would advance, Gabriel on his right and Michael on his left, and he would not relinquish his post until Allah granted victory through him. He left behind neither gold nor silver, save seven hundred dirhams he had set aside for a servant.’
