9 – Abū ʿAlī ibn Ṣafwān informed us; Abū Bakr ibn Abī al-Dunyā informed us; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ṣāliḥ related to me; ʿAmr ibn Hāshim al-Janbī informed us, from Abū ⦗27⦘ Janāb, from Abū ʿAwn al-Thaqafī, from Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Sulamī, who said:

Al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī told me: My father ʿAlī said, “Tonight the Messenger of Allah ﷺ appeared to me in a dream. I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, how much crookedness and obstinate contention I have met from your community!’ He replied, ‘Invoke God against them.’ So I prayed: ‘O Allah, replace them for me with people who are better than they, and replace me for them with someone who is worse than I am.’”
