retaliation is waived.
If two men sever another man’s hand, no retaliation is taken against either one individually; together they owe half the blood-money.
If a single assailant cuts off the right hands of two men and both victims are present, they may have his hand severed in retaliation and take from him half the blood-money, sharing it equally. If only one of them is present and has the aggressor’s hand cut off, the other still has a claim against him for half the blood-money.
When a slave confesses to intentional homicide, retaliation becomes incumbent upon him.
Whoever deliberately shoots an arrow at a man and the arrow passes through him into another so that both die is subject to retaliation for the first; the blood-money for the second is payable by his ʿāqila (agnatic relatives).
