And mubāraʾah (mutual release) is like khulʿ, and khulʿ is like mubāraʾah: according to Abū Ḥanīfa, each of them extinguishes every marital right that either spouse holds over the other—except the wife’s maintenance during her waiting-period. Abū Yūsuf holds that mubāraʾah does annul such rights, whereas khulʿ does not; Muḥammad maintains that neither form cancels anything beyond what the two parties explicitly named.
