A third copy of this treatise is also mentioned in A Register Containing Lists of Some Manuscripts of Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah, compiled by Shaykh ʿAlī b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Shibl. On p. 91 it says: “A treatise on patience, in eight folios, at the General Awqāf Library in Baghdad, number (4715/2), copied by Sulṭān b. Mullā Ḥusayn al-Qarah Ghūl, in the year 1217 AH.” I have been unable to consult it because of the current situation in Iraq.
C. My editorial procedure:
- I transcribed the text in accordance with modern orthographic conventions, adding vowel points where necessary.
- I identified Qur’anic verses, citing their surah and verse numbers in the footnotes.
- I traced the Prophetic hadiths that are marfūʿ, noted the scholars’ rulings on them, and, as far as I was able, sourced the mawqūf reports as well.
- I explained any unfamiliar terms that occur in the text.
- I composed an introduction describing the book and its contents, the manuscript copies, and the work I undertook on it.
