Qa'ida fi al-SabrIbn Taimiya

Fourteenth Aspect: When a person bears patiently the harm inflicted on him and endures it, this very patience often drives the aggressor to retract his injustice, feel remorse, offer an apology, and incur the blame of others. Consequently, after wronging him⦗5⦘, the offender returns ashamed and repentant for what he has done—indeed, he may even turn into an ally. This is the purport of the Almighty’s words: “Repel [evil] with that which is better; then the one between you and whom there was enmity will become as though he were a close and devoted friend. But none are granted this except those who are patient, and none are granted it except one endowed with a tremendous share [of grace].”⦗6⦘
