The Sixth Aspect

Sixth—and this is among the greatest benefits—is for one to recognize that recompense mirrors the deed itself; that he, too, is an offender and a sinner; and that whoever pardons people, Allah will pardon him, and whoever forgives7 will be forgiven by Allah. Once he understands that his own act of pardoning, overlooking, and showing kindness despite their wrongdoing becomes a cause for Allah to reward him in kind—by pardoning him, overlooking his faults, and treating him generously with regard to his sins—then forgiving and remaining patient will come easily to him. For the person of sound intellect, this benefit alone is sufficient.
