and that Allah—Mighty and Majestic— (1) did not speak to Moses; that Allah (2) is not a speaker and does not speak, nor does He utter anything (3); that He cannot be seen, that no place can be ascribed to Him, and that He possesses neither Throne nor Footstool (4). They indulge in much more that I dislike to relate. They are unbelievers, heretics, enemies of Allah—so beware of them (5).

• al-Wāqifah: they are those who claim, “We say the Qurʾān is the speech of Allah, but we do not say that it is uncreated” (6). They are the worst and most vile of all sects.

• al-Lafẓiyyah: they are those who claim (7), “The Qurʾān is the speech of Allah, but our utterances of the Qurʾān, our recitation (8), and our reading of it are created” (9). They are depraved Jahmiyyah.
