Among the principles of the Sunnah (1) that are clear and manifest, firmly established (2), and widely known (3) is to speak of the virtues of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—all of them, every one (4), and to refrain from mentioning their shortcomings or the dissension (5) that arose among them (6). Whoever vilifies the Companions of the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—or any single one of them (7), or belittles him (8), or assails them, or insinuates a fault, or censures any of them—whether little or much, slight or grave, through anything that opens the door to undermining any one of them (9)—is an innovator, a wicked Rāfiḍī deviant; Allah will accept from him neither obligatory deeds nor voluntary ones (10). Rather, loving them is Sunnah, praying for them is a means of drawing near to Allah, emulating them is a pathway, and adhering to their legacy is a virtue.
