over your affairs (1); do not (2) withdraw your hand (3) from obeying him (4), nor raise your sword against him (5) until Allah grants you relief and a way out. And (6) do not rebel (7) against the ruler (8); rather, listen and obey (9). Do not (10) break (11) your pledge of allegiance to him (12). If the rebel dies, he dies a death of jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic ignorance).
