[My Work on the Manuscript]
• In editing this creed I relied on a single manuscript: the “Questions” copy kept at the Institute of Scientific Research, College of Sharīʿah, Umm al-Qurā University in Mecca, catalogue number (32 – Hanbalī Fiqh). I photographed it and designated it with the letter (Q). I then compared the doctrinal section with the printed text of al-Iṣṭakhrī’s epistle as quoted by Ibn Abī Yaʿlā in his work "Ṭabaqāt al-Ḥanābila" (1), assigning that source the letter (T), and with the passages cited by Ibn al-Qayyim in "Ḥādī al-Arwāḥ" (2), which I marked with the letter (H).
• This section occupies eleven pages, amounting to roughly six folios; each page contains twenty-five lines, averaging twelve words per line.
