CHAPTER ON VOLUNTARY PRAYER: [THE ECLIPSE PRAYER].
125—The most emphatically recommended of these is the prayer1 for an eclipse2, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed it and commanded that it be performed.
126—It is performed in the manner described in Aisha’s hadith: “The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited aloud3 during the eclipse prayer, performing four bowings in two prayer units and four prostrations.” Agreed upon4.

(2) The shaykh said in *al-Mukhtārāt al-Jaliyya*, p. 53: “Some scholars hold that the eclipse prayer is obligatory because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed it and commanded people to perform it.”
(3) B and T read: *bi-qirā’atihi* (“with his recitation”).
(4) Reported by al-Bukhārī, 2:549, and Muslim (no. 901). The shaykh explained that any narrations describing the prayer in a manner different from this are due to errors by some narrators, as stated by leading imams such as Ahmad, al-Bukhārī, and others. *Al-Mukhtārāt al-Jaliyya*, p. 53.
بَابُ صَلاةِ التَّطَوُّعِ، [صَلاةُ الكُسُوفِ] .
١٢٥- وَآكَدُهَا: صَلَاة١ الكسوف٢؛
لأن النبي ﷺ فعلها وأمر بها.
١٢٦- وتصلى على صفة حديث عائشة: أن النبى ﷺ جهر في صلاة الكسوف في قراءته٣، فَصَلَّى أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ فِي رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَأَرْبَعَ سَجَدَاتٍ. متفق عليه٤.

٢ قال الشيخ في "المختارات الجلية، ص: ٥٣": وقال بعض العلماء بوجوب صلاة الكسوف؛ لأن النبي ﷺ فعلها وأمر الناس بها.
