Manhaj al-Salikin wa Tawdih al-Fiqh fi al-DinAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

90—and if, while bowing and prostrating1, he also says, “Glory be to You, O Allah, our Lord, and praise be to You. O Allah, forgive me”2, that is good.

91—Then he raises his head,

92—saying, “Allah hears whoever praises Him,” if he is the imam or is praying alone.

93—Everyone says3, “Our Lord, to You belongs all praise—[abundant, pure and blessed praise]—as much as fills the heavens, as much as fills the earth, and as much as fills whatever else You will”4.

1. In B and T: “while.” 2. Narrated by al-Bukhārī, 2/199, and Muslim, no. 484, on the authority of Ā'isha (may Allah be pleased with her). 3. In B and T: “also.” 4. Narrated by Muslim, no. 476, with the wording: “When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) straightened his back after bowing, he would say, ‘Allah hears whoever praises Him. O Allah, our Lord, to You belongs all praise—as much as fills the heavens, as much as fills the earth, and as much as fills whatever else You will thereafter.’” Muslim also narrated the same from Abū Sa'īd, no. 477, adding: “O You who are worthy of praise and glory! The words most fitting for a servant to utter—and we are all Your servants—are: O Allah, none can withhold what You give, none can give what You withhold, and no wealthy person’s wealth can avail him against You.” He also narrated a similar report from Ibn Abbās, no. 478. As for the addition [“abundant, pure, and blessed praise”], it comes from the hadith of Rifā'a ibn Rāfi' al-Zuraqī, who said: “One day, we were praying behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When he raised his head after bowing, he said, ‘Allah hears whoever praises Him.’ A man behind him said, ‘Our Lord, to You belongs all praise—abundant, pure, and blessed praise.’ When the prayer ended, he asked, ‘Who said that?’ The man replied, ‘I did.’ He said, ‘I saw thirty-odd angels racing to be the first to record it.’” Narrated by al-Bukhārī, no. 799.
