Manhaj al-Salikin wa Tawdih al-Fiqh fi al-DinAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

7—Wiping his head once with both hands, from the front of his head1 to the nape of his neck, and then returning them to the place where he began;

8—Then inserting his index fingers into the openings2 of his ears and wiping their outer surfaces with his thumbs3;

9—Then washing each foot, including the ankles, three times4.

This is the most complete form of ablution performed by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

33—The obligatory elements among these are:

1—Washing each prescribed part once.

2—Performing them in the order in which Allah Most High mentioned them in His words: “O you who believe, when you rise to pray, wash your faces and your arms up to the elbows, wipe your heads, and wash your feet up to the ankles.” [al-Mā’idah: 6]

= the elbows and ankles. None of those who described the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) wudu reported that he did so or encouraged it. He then explained that the wording in the hadith of Abū Hurayra, ‘Whoever among you is able to extend his ghurra (the radiance of the face) and tahjīl (the radiance of the limbs)…,’ was interpolated from Abū Hurayra’s own words.” (1) Manuscripts “B” and “T” read: “its front.” (2) Manuscripts “B” and “T” read: “his index fingers in his ears.” (3) The Shaykh explained that taking fresh water for the ears is not recommended, because the hadith concerning this practice is inauthentic. See *al-Mukhtārāt*, p. 15. (4) Added from manuscripts “B” and “T.”
