Manhaj al-Salikin wa Tawdih al-Fiqh fi al-DinAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

“O Allah, I seek refuge in You1 from evil and evil deeds.”2

17—Upon leaving it:
1—He should put his right foot forward.
2—He should say: “I seek Your forgiveness3. Praise be to Allah, who has removed harm from me and granted me well-being4.”

= ʿAbd al-Qādir al-Arnaʾūt stated in *Jāmiʿ al-Usūl*, 4/316: “The hadith has corroborating reports that strengthen it, thereby raising it to the level of *sahīh*.” 1. Manuscript A reads: “I seek refuge in Allah.” 2. Narrated by al-Bukhārī, 1/242, and Muslim, no. 375. When *al-khubuth* is read with a damma on both the *khā* and the *bā*, it means the male jinn. When the *bā* is unvocalized, *al-khubth* means evil and is therefore broader in meaning. Accordingly, under the first reading, *al-khabāʾith* means the female jinn, while under the second it means evil deeds. 3. Narrated by Ahmad, 6/155; Abū Dāwūd, no. 30; Ibn Mājah, no. 300; Ibn Hibbān, no. 1431; al-Dārimī, 1/174; and al-Tirmidhī, no. 7, who said: “It is *hasan gharīb*.” It was also narrated by al-Hākim, 1/158, who graded it authentic. Abū Hātim stated in *al-ʿIlal*, 1/43: “It is the soundest hadith on this subject.” It was also graded authentic by Ibn Khuzayma, Ibn al-Jārūd, al-Nawawī, and al-Dhahabī. 4. Narrated by Ibn Mājah, no. 301, from the hadith of Anas. Its chain contains Ismāʿīl ibn Muslim al-Makkī, who is weak. Al-Būsīrī said: “Scholars agree that he is weak, and the hadith with this wording is not established.” Abū al-Hasan al-Sindī stated in his marginal commentary on Ibn Mājah: “A similar statement is attributed to the compiler in some manuscript copies.” Ibn al-Sunnī also narrated it, no. 21, from the hadith of Abū Dharr. Al-Hāfiz Ibn Hajar discussed this hadith at length in his *Takhrīj al-Adhkār*, which is worth consulting.
