Allah Most High says: “The woman and the man guilty of unlawful sexual intercourse—flog each of them with one hundred lashes”—to the end of the verse. [al-Nūr 24:2]

It is narrated from Ubādah ibn al-Sāmit, traced back to the Prophet: “Take this from me; take this from me. Allah has provided a way for them: the unmarried offender is to receive one hundred lashes and one year’s banishment, while the previously married offender with a previously married partner is to receive one hundred lashes and be stoned.” Narrated by Muslim1.
The later of the two rulings, however, was to confine the punishment of the married offender to stoning, as in the accounts of Māiz and the Ghāmidī woman2.
= the four witnesses to *zinā* (unlawful sexual intercourse) appear in a single session. Indeed, even if they appeared in separate sessions, their testimony would not be rejected. The same would apply if two testified that he had intercourse with her in one house or on one day, while the other two testified that he had intercourse with her on another day or in another house. …

* وعن عبادة بن الصامت مرفوعاً: "خذوا عني، خذوا عني، فقد جعل الله لهن سبيلاً: البكر جلد مائة ونفي سنة، والثيب بالثيب: جلد مائة والرجم" رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ١.
وَآخِرُ اَلْأَمْرَيْنِ اَلِاقْتِصَارُ عَلَى رَجْمِ المحصن، كما في قصة ماعز والغامدية٢..
= الشهود الأربعة في الزنا في مجلس واحد، بل لو جاءوا في مجالس لم ترد شهادتهم، وكذلك لو شهد اثنان أنه وطئها في بيت أو يوم، وآخران أنه وطئها في يوم آخر أو بيت آخر ...
