over it1 when he releases it.
607—Adī ibn Hātim reported that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“When you release your trained dog, pronounce Allah’s name over it.
— If it catches the prey for you and you reach it alive, then slaughter it.
— If you reach it after it has killed the prey without eating any of it, then eat it.
— If you find another dog with yours and the prey has been killed, do not eat it, for you do not know which of the two killed it.
— When you shoot your arrow, pronounce Allah’s name over it2.
— If the prey remains out of sight for a day and you see no mark on it other than that of your arrow, then eat it if you wish.
— But if you find it drowned in the water, do not eat it.” Narrated by al-Bukhārī and Muslim3.
608—A hadith states: “Allah has prescribed excellence in all things. When you kill, therefore, kill in the best manner; and when you slaughter, slaughter in the best manner. Let each of you sharpen his blade and spare the animal suffering.” Narrated by Muslim4.
