Manhaj al-Salikin wa Tawdih al-Fiqh fi al-DinAbd al-Rahman al-Sadi’

C—They are separated, and marriage between them becomes permanently prohibited;

D—The child’s attribution to him is negated if the child is mentioned during the mutual imprecation1. And Allah knows best.

(1) Paternity is attributed to the husband unless one of two circumstances applies: either *li‘ān* (mutual imprecation), or factual impossibility—for example, if she gives birth to a living child less than six months after he married her, or after their separation at a time that establishes that the child cannot be his—as the Shaykh explains in *Nūr al-Basā’ir*, p. 54.
