525—It consists of five or more nursing sessions1.
526—Through such nursing, the child and the child’s descendants become children of the nursing woman and of the man to whom her milk is attributed.
527—The marriage prohibition extends through the nursing woman and the man to whom the milk is attributed2, just as it extends through blood kinship.
(1) In *al-Mukhtārāt al-Jaliyya* (p. 111), the shaykh stated: “A nursing session is not counted merely because the child releases the breast or moves to the other breast; rather, it must be a complete nursing session.” Shaykh Ibn Aqīl also quoted Ibn Qudāma as stating in *al-Kāfī* (5/64): “Ibn Hāmid said: If the child stops because of something incidental, or is made to stop, and then immediately resumes, both bouts count as one nursing session. If a substantial interval separates them, or the child moves from one woman to another, they count as two nursing sessions. Similarly, if a person interrupted a meal to drink or because of some incident and then immediately resumed eating, it would count as one meal. The same applies to nursing.” End quote.
(2) In “A”: “and the woman to whom the milk is attributed.”
